Managing packaging inventory
Manage your packaging materials inventory, automatically consume inventory during packing (auto consumption from Create From Batch screen only).
1. SETUP PACKAGING PARTS
Packaging "Parts" are a list of materials used to pack, eg: Polly Bag 50LB, Carton 20LB, or 16oz clamshells.
From Settings > Parts > tap the gear icon to right of Category and create a new category called Packaging (turn off Container and Show in Farming). Tap save.
Now tap + to add each Packaging Part. The Quantity is the order multiple (eg: you order a pallet of 1000 cartons enter 1000 and set Units to either Units or Each). If you have lots of Parts, it may be quicker to import them, see Parts for importing.
Set the Re-order level to receive alerts when the inventory drops below the re-order level, or use the "Inventory to order" report to see upcoming order requirements.
2. ASSOCIATE PACKAGING PARTS TO FINISHED PRODUCT PARTS
If you want automatic consumption of packaging inventory, this step is required, if not skip it. From Settings > Part > edit each Finished Product Part, list the Packaging Parts needed to pack it on the "Ingredients" tab. This is similar to a Bill Of Materials required to make one finished crate/bag. For detailed info on Ingredients see Parts.
To add ingredients,
A). Select +, select Category "Packaging"
B). Select Packaging Part being used
C). Select "Consume on create inventory"
D). Enter quantity, eg: 1 if you consume 1 carton per Finished Part
E). Tap save
3. CREATE CURRENT STOCK LEVELS
This process sets the current quantity of each Packaging Part. You should also use this process in future EVERY TIME a new delivery of packaging materials is received. From New Inventory, select Delivery:
A). Supplier: select company that provided the inventory
B). Warehouse: select storage location of inventory
C). Select Category and Part
D). Select units, eg: 1 for 1 pallet containing 1000 cartons (don't enter 1000!)
E). In Traceability enter Supplier Invoice No or Batch# of the materials
F). Tap save
If you have the same inventory from multiple suppliers or with different batch numbers, then create multiple Delivery records.
You can perform stock-takes any time, this allows you to adjust the balance of a Part in Producepak if it doesn't match what you physically have in the store room. See stock-take for more info.
CONSUME INVENTORY
Manually: You can add packaging inventory to the batch the same way you add fresh produce.
Automatically: When you use New Inventory > Batch, or create inventory from Batch screen, the inventory can be automatically reduced and a traceability note added to the finished product. Enable Setting 318.
